Candy is a 5 year old purebred chocolate chihuahua. She was bought by an older woman from a puppy mill; but it is unknown if she had any puppies or not.

 

Candy is spayed and heartworm negative. She has a small limp, the result of an old injury that healed improperly. She takes Deramax, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory.

 

As is the case with many puppy mill dogs, Candy is undersocializedand.  When she first came to us, we kept her in a bathroom for a couple of days and let her go on newspapers until she trusted us. We would go in often, and sit down and not force ourselves on her. She loves treats, so we started handfeeding her those; and on the third day we were able to pet her, and gain her trust.  Once she decides you are okay, she's your best friend!
